This is what happens when canes fail to lignify

In August, we always keep a close eye on this period when the shoots lignify and turn into wood. This is what allows the vine to be a perennial plant. The canes will withstand the winter and provide us with the wood for pruning.
When canes fail to lignify, they disintegrate and fall straight to the ground.
