When wine cured everything

.. A different era: 1974, the publication of Doctor Maury's Soignez-vous par le vin, which became a bestseller in bookshops. The Évin Law had not yet come into force. The author also denounced those ‘woeful-faced learned figures’, those ‘followers of pure water’ campaigning against wine. For Doctor Maury, wine was not an ‘alcoholic beverage’. Certainly not a drink like any other, but agreeing with his medical prescriptions is a step we shall not take. A selection of his remedies: For a sore throat, a Médoc For anaemia, a Graves (and yes, our wines are rich in iron!) For heart trouble, a Champagne of course! Santé!
