While chatting last year with Jean-Francois Menard of Château Memoires, he mentioned some old vines growing in one of his plots

The old-timers called this grape variety Béquin.
So we had to arrange a meeting with an ampelographer to find out what it was.
Olivier Yobregat did us the honour of visiting the parcel, and the verdict is in. The elders were not mistaken when they spoke of Béquin, as it turns out to be Bequignol blanc (a genetic mutation of Bequignol rouge); but what the old-timers did not know was that the plot also contained Ondenc. Not surprising, as this grape variety produces lovely sweet wines, so it is hardly unexpected to find it in the midst of this Semillon plot.
If you have an old plot in Gironde, drop me a line; it will be a pleasure to come and visit you and try to put a name to your old vines.
