The "Pirates", the winemakers blowing up the Bordeaux rulebook

Gone is "the grandparents' bottle served at Sunday lunch". In the Bordeaux region, a collective of "pirate winemakers" is championing innovation to dust off the image of local wines, shunned by some consumers. It is harvest time at Château Cazebonne, in the Graves. Its owner, Jean-Baptiste Duquesne, tastes the deep-purple and golden-bronze berries of forgotten grape varieties he is working to revive, checking their ripeness.
