A different era
In 1930, winegrowers rebelled. The vineyards, already battered by phylloxera, suffered a slump in wine sales, facing competition from beer and pastis.
The Ministry of Agriculture decided to launch a communication campaign and commissioned this poster from the illustrator Leonetto Cappiello. The slogan "Buvez du vin et vivez joyeux" has remained famous ever since.
