Among the wonderful things tasted this weekend were the Malbecs from Château Tire-Pé

Malbec in the plural, because David Barrault carried out extensive massal selection, seeking out very old vines in Cahors.
As an anecdote, Auxerrois (the name for Cot or Malbec in Cahors) almost entirely disappeared from the vineyards of Cahors following the frost of 1956. It accounted for just 1% of the grape varieties planted. It is likely that Bordeaux Malbecs helped to re-establish the vineyard plantings.
