01 April 2022
To fight against frost this year, half of the vines (on early-ripening varieties or the most frost-prone plots) have only been partially pruned

We pruned away all unnecessary wood and preserved an unpruned cane.
The vine grows according to principles of acrotony, meaning that it prioritises the growth of its terminal buds, all the more so if they are higher up.
Once the frost has passed, we will prune this cane back to the desired number of buds. These buds will have been spared by the frost because they will have barely or not yet begun budburst.
On our Darche plot, with early-ripening Merlot, we will thus avoid crop losses from the frosts on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
