Timeless maxims inspired by wine

The history of wine is rich in memorable words, from ancestral proverbs to more contemporary thoughts. These readings about wine are an endless source of inspiration. They remind us of the importance of patience, observation and respect for nature—fundamental values that we cultivate on a daily basis. Each quote chosen for this section is a nod to one of these aspects: a metaphor on vine pruning that shapes the future, a reflection on the maturation of wines that refines their character, or perhaps a quip about the mysteries of wine ageing that makes it so fascinating. A witty remark, whether amusing or profound, allows us to grasp the very essence of our passion.

The estate

At Château Cazebonne, we are proud to blaze new trails by replanting grape varieties in Bordeaux that had disappeared, a task made possible by the unwavering support of discerning wine lovers who have embraced and enjoyed our cuvées. To take your journey into the heart of Bordeaux's wine history even further, feel free to get the digital version of the book "Bordeaux, a history of grape varieties" and test your knowledge with our oenological quizzes, or discover our favourites and our unique wines in our online shop.

Wine not?

Good question! Let's go!

The Semillon grape is for the boy, Mérille is for the girl, Blanquette for the little lass, Petit pied rouge (Cot) for the little child, Bouchalès is for the bourgeois, And Oeil de tour (Ondec), prune it short, All these vines, fiddle-de-dee... Bear grapes right down to the rear.

A traditional song featuring grape variety names from Lot-et-Garonne, quoted by Marcel Lacroix in a work published in Agen in 1941. Aside from Semillon and Cot, at Cazebonne we have replanted Bouchalès and Mérille, which were once planted across Bordeaux.

Drink! Eternal life is in this wine. Drink! It gives to youth a divine taste. Drink! It burns like fire, but serves as a remedy, like the water of youth, to all sorrow! Drink!
