Far from clichés, our approach highlights environmentally respectful viticulture and a steadfast commitment to preserving the historic grape varieties of Bordeaux.
Château Cazebonne is much more than a mere wine estate; it is an invitation to complete immersion in a world where tradition meets innovation. Our philosophy is rooted in respect for terroir and the pursuit of authenticity. By visiting Cazebonne, you will discover the fascinating history of this estate, our team's dedication, and the passion that drives every stage in the life of our wines. It is a unique opportunity to understand the values that guide our craft and our vision for the future of the Bordeaux vineyards. We invite you to learn more about the history of Cazebonne.
Château Cazebonne is located in Saint-Pierre-de-Mons, within the Graves appellation area. Here, our vines draw their character from a fascinating diversity of soils. The famous graves—gravel deposits washed down by the Garonne—sit alongside clays and asteria limestone, relics of ancient seabeds. This geological mosaic imparts a distinctive complexity and minerality to our wines, key elements of their identity and their ageing potential. Understanding this terroir means grasping the very essence of our cuvées. Our estate spans the last gravel knoll in the south of the Gironde, a geological feature that provides natural drainage and optimal sun exposure for our plots. This microclimate and soil diversity are essential for the expression of our grape varieties. To learn more about the region's history, feel free to read our article on the 1697 land survey by La Reynie in Peyron: The land survey of La Reynie in Peyron (1697).
Château Cazebonne stands out through its project to preserve and reintroduce forgotten Bordeaux grape varieties. During your wine tour, you will have the unique opportunity to visit our experimental plots where historic varieties such as Mancin, Castets, Saint-Macaire, Carmenère, and Pardotte thrive. This pioneering work is a cornerstone of our commitment to the diversity and future richness of the Bordeaux vineyards, an initiative acclaimed by many in the wine world. This drive to return to the historical roots of Bordeaux grape varieties is reflected in our cuvées, offering novel aromatic profiles and structures. This project is part of a broader commitment to biodynamic viticulture that respects biodiversity.
Beyond these rare grape varieties, the winery at Cazebonne showcases our low-intervention winemaking methods, using vats, traditional oak barrels, and amphorae. This approach allows us to preserve the pure expression of fruit and terroir. Finally, a guided tasting will take you on a journey from classic Graves wines to our orange wines and Pet-Nats, showcasing the diversity of our cuvées available among fine Graves wines. Our experts will guide you through the nuances of each wine, sharing the secrets of their creation and ideal food and wine pairings for a memorable tasting experience.
The Cazebonne experience is an authentic encounter—a deep dive into the passion of winegrowers working to revive Bordeaux's viticultural heritage. Every winery visit in the Graves: Discover Cazebonne is an opportunity to understand our philosophy and taste the fruits of our labour. We invite you to contact us to arrange your visit and make the most of this immersive experience. Visits to the estate are strictly by appointment only.
Château Cazebonne embodies the revival of a forgotten viticultural heritage in Bordeaux, an endeavour made possible thanks to the unwavering support of wine lovers who embrace our wines.
