This year, given the hail damage, we are going to spur-prune

This means we won’t be able to leave a cane with 4, 5 or 6 buds. The wood is too fragile and would snap during pruning. We are therefore leaving spurs, meaning very short pieces of wood with only 2 buds. This means that the 2019 harvest will inevitably be small, but there is no other choice. As a result, to save time during pruning, we decided to pre-prune this year. This machine cuts the canes, thereby facilitating the pruning work and making pulling out the cut wood much easier. And pulling out the canes is never simple with all those tendrils clinging to the trellis wires.
