I want itFruity Bordeaux wine
While the classic image of Bordeaux often conjures up age-worthy, powerful, and structured red wines, there is also a brighter and immediately accessible facet: wines where fruit is king. At Château Cazebonne, we champion this natural generosity and aromatic vibrancy, crafting wines that celebrate the fruity wealth of the Bordeaux terroir. Far from clichéd perceptions, we demonstrate that Bordeaux can also produce pleasurable, approachable wines bursting with freshness and vitality.
How do we magnify this fruit expression? Every step of our work is designed with this in mind:
The key lies first and foremost in harvesting at perfect phenolic ripeness. We wait until the fruit aromas in the grapes reach their peak, avoiding over-ripeness which could mask their freshness with stewed or jammy notes. It is the subtle balance between fruit, acidity, and ripe tannins that gives our wines their elegance.
Certain grape varieties are naturally more expressive in fruit aromas. Merlot, for instance, offers generous notes of plum and red berries, while Cabernet Franc stands out for its nuances of raspberry and redcurrant. For white wines, Sauvignon Blanc displays a palette of citrus and tropical fruit. But our quest does not stop there. As Jean-Baptiste Duquesne explains in "Bordeaux, une histoire de cépages", Bordeaux's varietal diversity was once far wider. We are thus exploring the fruity potential of forgotten varieties, such as Bouchalès with its intense red fruit notes, or Saint-Macaire, which brings a touch of freshness. These discoveries significantly enrich our aromatic palette.
To preserve these primary aromas, our vinification techniques are gentle and low-intervention. For our fruity red wines, we favour gentle extractions akin to an infusion, achieving silky textures and supple, integrated tannins. The aim is to craft wines of finesse, drinkability, and immediate pleasure, reconnecting with a sometimes-forgotten Bordeaux tradition. For our whites and rosés, delicate pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation are essential to enhance freshness and aromatic definition. Ageing takes place mostly in neutral vessels (stainless steel vats, concrete, amphorae) or subtle oak, allowing the fruit to express itself fully without being masked by wood.
The fruity character of a wine is not merely about the presence of fruit aromas. It is a complexity born of the interaction between grape variety, terroir, and the winemaker's choices. At Château Cazebonne, we strive to capture the true, authentic flavour of the fruit, where it expresses itself with vitality without ever tipping into excess or heaviness. This approach results in wines that offer both aromatic richness and effortless drinkability, inviting convivial and unpretentious tasting.
Thanks to their freshness and generous fruit, Bordeaux's fruity wines are ideal companions for a wide range of dishes. They pair wonderfully with simple, casual fare, such as homemade pizza or tapas for an extended apéritif. Red wines from Graves, with their fruit-forward profile and supple tannins, match perfectly with summer barbecues. As for our fruity whites, they are excellent with fish, seafood, and fresh cheeses. The versatility of these wines makes them a valuable choice for every occasion, from everyday meals to gatherings with friends.
The current appetite for fruit-forward wines reflects changing consumer preferences towards wines that are both expressive and effortlessly enjoyable. Château Cazebonne embraces this dynamic by offering wines that, while respecting Bordeaux heritage, stand out for their resolutely fruity and modern profile. Our commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture enhances this authentic aromatic expression, allowing each grape variety to reveal the pure character of its fruit.
Our "Entre amis" range embodies this approach, offering accessible and deliciously fruity cuvées that are ideal for spontaneous drinks and convivial meals. But beyond this range, every wine from Cazebonne expresses a deep commitment to respecting the fruit and the pleasure it brings.
Seeking out a fruity wine in Bordeaux means looking for immediate enjoyment and generous flavour. It is a natural expectation that we meet with authentic wines crafted through organic and biodynamic farming. Our initiative to replant forgotten and extinct grape varieties further expands the spectrum of fruity expressions possible in Bordeaux—a bold and exciting endeavour.
