Do you know the Gros Verdot grape variety

Philippe Roudié, in Vignobles et Vignerons du Bordelais, tells us that in the 17th century the people of Bordeaux tried in vain to obtain from Colbert a ban on the planting of Gros Verdot (Verdot Colon) in the palus, which was competing with the production of Petit Verdot, the noble vine of the bourgeoisie!
We loved this anecdote, so we wanted to plant it to see what this Gros Verdot, which frightened the Bordeaux bourgeoisie so much, would yield.
We analysed the juice from this grape variety on Friday. We are looking at an estimated potential alcohol of 14.1% with a pH of 3.44. A very lovely balance in prospect. On tasting, it is not yet ripe, but nevertheless further along than its cousin Petit Verdot.
