If there was ever any need to demonstrate the extraordinary diversity of grape varieties present in our vineyards over the past centuries

From 1782 to 1784, Intendant Nicolas Dupré de Saint-Maur ordered an immense survey to inventory all the grape varieties present in the kingdom. The objective was to establish the nomenclature in order to better understand the various synonyms. Until now, this survey had been stored in the Bordeaux and Gironde departmental archives. However, this work had never been digitised and made public. A team of volunteers under the direction of Henri Galinié took on this task. All the documents are now available online at:

We have reproduced below the list of grape varieties inventoried in Bazas, 16 km from our estate.
We recognise the names of grape varieties that we have replanted, but many of these varieties remain unidentified or extinct today. We cannot wait to taste enrageat, pardotte (grande or petite parde?), penouille (Pelle aouille), blanc auba, ...
It is also likely that the Petit péjac or Béquignol that we have replanted were included in this list under another name. This also makes us want to replant Chaussé as well.
This document is exceptional in every respect. Historians and ampelographers are far from finished with their research...
