Among the fascinating diversity of birds that liven up our plots at Château Cazebonne, the wagtail stands out for its grace and aerial agility. Slender and elegant, adorned with delicate colours and recognisable by its constantly bobbing tail, it offers a most charming spectacle in our vineyard environment. Whether it is the white wagtail (Motacilla alba), a common species in our region with its elegant black breast and dazzling white belly, or the yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava), with its brighter hues and luminous yellow plumage, their presence is a precious indicator of the good health and vitality of our ecosystems.

These birds are frequently observed twirling lightly between the vines, or settling delicately on a trellis wire. Their life cycle is closely linked to the seasons, the yellow wagtail being, as its French name suggests, a regular visitor during the warmer months, while the white wagtail can be spotted all year round. Their diet, consisting mainly of insects, makes them valuable natural allies for our viticulture.

Wagtails play a beneficial ecological role in our vineyards. They actively contribute to regulating the populations of small invertebrates, thus participating in the subtle biological balance of our vines. This contribution fits perfectly with our approach to respectful cultivation, which favours natural solutions and aims to minimise human impact on the environment. Their appetite for insects is a major asset in our quest for sustainable and harmonious viticulture. The proof is that, thanks to these precious allies and many other bird species, our vines are thriving without a trace of herbicides or pesticides.

The constant presence of these discreet but oh-so-effective birds is living proof that our cultivation practices, founded on the respect for biodiversity, are bearing fruit. The flowered hedges bordering our plots, the controlled grassing of our soils, and the total absence of chemical inputs create a welcoming habitat teeming with resources for these allies of the winegrower. They find an ideal hunting ground in our vines, allowing them to flourish and actively participate, in their own way, in the abundant life of the estate. One can also come across the elegant egret, whose immaculate whiteness sometimes stands out among the rows of vines. You can also discover the robin, another familiar guest of our plots.
