Le Jardin des Vignes: Where natural balance is cultivated

A privileged location at the heart of the estate

Le Jardin des Vignes at Château Cazebonne is not merely an agricultural space; it represents a harmonious fusion of Bordeaux winemaking tradition and a modern agroecological approach. Located within the estate itself, this space is a showcase for our commitment to biodiversity and innovative cultivation practices. Here, we experiment with joualles cultivation, an ancestral method where rows of vines alternate with other crops, a practice that Francis has brilliantly brought up to date.

A rich and diverse terroir

The geology of Le Jardin des Vignes is characteristic of the Graves, with its gravelly and clay-limestone soils. This composition offers excellent natural drainage and precious water retention capacity, favourably influencing the vigour and aromatic expression of the crops. The landscape, shaped by gentle undulations, creates varied microclimates that benefit both the vines and the market garden plots.

You can learn more about the viticultural geology of our region and understand the importance of this soil type for our crops. Likewise, an awareness of organic matter in soils is essential for the success of such initiatives.

Flourishing biodiversity

Beyond the rows of vines, Le Jardin des Vignes is a true ecosystem where various market garden crops coexist with encouraged wild flora and fauna. Here, you will find a variety of vegetables, whose flavours have already won over many palates, grown in synergy with the vines. This diversity of plant species promotes rich biodiversity, attracting pollinating and beneficial insects, and providing a favourable habitat for numerous animals. It is a living example of the biodiversity we wish to promote within our estate. Discover in particular our approach to salads and the secrets of tomatoes.

A sensory and educational experience

Le Jardin des Vignes is a tangible testament to our quest for a more environmentally friendly viticulture. Coming to discover it means immersing yourself in our biodynamic and agroecological practices. Every season offers a different face, from the vibrant spring when everything awakens to the generosity of summer and autumn, the harvest period. This is an opportunity to understand our approach to joualles cultivation and to observe the positive impact on the quality of our products.

Château Cazebonne is proud of this bold project which replants the forgotten grape varieties of the Bordeaux vineyard landscape and passionately cultivates biodiversity. This work is made possible thanks to the unwavering support of a community of enlightened enthusiasts.
